Seems like many companies don't respect their candidates time.

I've found it useful as a candidate to filter out companies with a bad hiring process.

Take home assignments that take hours and hours are a great example, especially for experienced devs who could simply provide their own code example instead.

The company reveals early on if they will treat you poorly and have unreasonable deadlines if they ask the same in the interview.
